I think I've been scammed!

Okay so a week or two ago I got a phone call from my "phone insurance company", it was a welsh bird so I was instantly smitten! She asked me how my phone was doing and it all seemed very professional. She then told me the reason for phoning was to let me know that my monthly charge for the insurance was being lowered, so I thought fair enough, I can't complain with that.

So then we had to register me an account and I had to get some serial number off my phone or something and she gave me a pin which I had to enter into my phone (or sommat like that).

So then she asked for my credit card number and the security code so she could change the payment or something so like a fool I gave her the info and that was it really. I then found on my bank statement a few days ago that I had been charged £80 on the same day in 2 x £40 transactions from a company called "securephones2u LTD" from Swansea, Wales.

What do I do? Please help! :(

Oh, and you all have the right to call me an idiot! I deserve it!

You have 14 days to cancel any distance selling contract and obtain a refund. Find this company's number on t'internet, call them up, say you were missold and ask for your refund. Do that NOW.

If you can't find a number/they don't comply, you can try your credit card company and ask for a chargeback. They may well tell you to bog off though, and basically say you should chalk it up to experience. After all, you did hand out your card details to someone who called YOU (a HUGE no-no) btw, asking about a product you don't own...

This is a fraudulent transaction, so the credit card provider is likely to prove helpful. Had the card used been a debit card, things would have been considerably worse.

    You idiot!

This is a completely unneccessary response, have you never made a mistake ?

The poster has been conned and is asking for advice, not to be reprimanded. I think if he contacts his bank and disputes the transactions, the bank may be quite helpful even though Debit Cards are not covered by Section75.
  • You idiot!
I do hope you are not the 'welsh bird' referred to in post 1. I also hope you don't get conned in the same way as I doubt you'll get much support here.

I think that Badger_Lady was only trying to chear you up by taking you at your word - after all you did say we could all call you an idiot - and she did add a smiley to make the point.

Never-the-less you have my sympathy. It just goes to show how even the best of us can get scammed, despite thinking that we know how to avoid it.

Hope you can get it sorted out.

Also goes to prove that things can so easily get mis-construed on forums.

Edit: And just to prove the point as I was posting so was Badger_Lady!!!
