House Insurance - not covered when they said we were!

Hello,
We moved recently and after several calls to our home insurers finally got told "Yeah don't worry you will be covered in your new address. We'll be in touch." After the move we were out of the country for a week and after returning we still hadn't anything.
When we finally got through to speak to someone to ask where the paper work was we were told that:
a) Our case had been referred;
b) We were not covered (and hadn't been since we moved 2 weeks previously).
Since we struggled to move this any further very quickly we've decided to get cover elsewhere.
How do we get a refund from our original company? Or rather how can I do it effectively? (We have paid up until May so in theory are owed 4 months).
Many thanks,
Ww

If you check the small print there will be some weasel words about refund in the event of cancellation."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Thanks missile,
What I'm wondering is have we got a case for taking it further. Before we moved we tried 4 or 5 times to contact them and got told each time that an underwriter would get back to us - but they never sis. Then to be told that we were covered when we weren't.
To be honest it's been quite stressful and caused quite a few arguments :sad:0
