On the other hand this could be the start of a trend which, if it continues, could demonstrate that the suns activity has more to do with global warming than the IPCC could have you belive. IF this is the case we could save billions of pounds trying to manipulate the whether via our TV standby buttons etc. The money saved could then be used to address other problems around the world.
yes, lets put that in perspective, 100+ years of survey data showing things are warming, or one years worth of data showing a cooling, now if I was a betting man......0 -

100+ years against one year ?? Really ? You obviously weren't around for the winter of 62/63 - that's 1962/63. I was around for 1947 as well but not old enough to remember it !
If I was off to William Hill's I would also have a good look at this first !

Match that 100+ years of data against the thousand, even millions of years of data that shows the temperature of the earth goes up and down in regular patterns and I know which I will put my money on too!
Just look back at the clothes people wore throughout the ages. Why did mini skirts and hot pants take off in the 60's early 70's then get replaced by maxi and midi skirts? Why were very short dresses all the fashion in the 20's and 30's? Why did victorian women wear 18 petticoats? Because it was bl**dy cold!
When the weather is warm the clothes get less, when it gets cold the clothes get more.
The world has always gone through hot and cold periods, and it just happens that it is coming to the peak of a warm period.
Nothing to do with CO2, just the sun spots.0 -
Global Warming is just a con to try and convince us to stop using oil, as I think it's running out faster than they're letting on. Also a good excuse to raise taxes.
I never believed in humans causing global warming at the extent they made us think we did.
Still it's a bit parky out there tonight, so I'll leave my car running all night and de-tune it so it's nice and smokey.A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -

I also believe it's to try and stop the developing countries stealing our industry. Countries like China and India are now producing the goods we used to produce, and doing it cheaper. Now we are saying they should close their factories as they are causing too much CO2 and it is causing global warming.
Couldn't possibly be that we want to close the factories because they are nicking all our trade, could it?0 -
If I were a betting man I would analyse as follows:
The Problem
We are using the earth’s natural resources at a very high rate. We need to reduce consumption – how do we do this?
The Solution
Promote the theory that man made emissions are the main cause of global warming in the hope that this will curtail consumption.
Now I have not the slightest clue what Homo Sapiens contributes towards global warming, and whilst I can understand the motives behind the campaign, I have a healthy cynicism about scientists and politicians; and regard most of the ‘Green Movement’ in the same light as any other religious zealots!0 -

Sure, there may be an element of bandwagonism, that doesnt bely the data, the data says that the hottest years on record have all been in the last ten, and that we may well get cold and wet years, but that on average it will get warmer.
And err, con to stop using oil....thats a good one, you are actually concious that oil is a finite resource arent you ?? - eventually it WILL run out, many predict that "peak oil" has already occured
So, I'll return to my question, so what ??? - even if it is a con, from a moneysaving point of view, how is moving to more sustainable lifestyles a bad thing, how is having to turn off the TV at night not a good thing, it doesnt matter if it's saving the planet or not, at the very least it;s saving you money!!!0 -

Yes, I do realise oil is a finite resource, and yes I agree we should stop using it. Unfortunately I think we're closer to running out than we've previously been told.
You have seen Mad Max? Well we could well see something like this if the oil runs out before alternative energy is fully developed.
The solution - invent global warming and hope we cut our use, until renewables are fully on stream.A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -

the data says that the hottest years on record have all been in the last ten, and that we may well get cold and wet years, but that on average it will get warmer.
But the data they refer to doesn't go back very far. And why do they keep saying on the Tv that this is the hottest year since 1934, or that this may was the hottest since 1921.
Claiming something is the hottest, coldest, wettest since records began is like starting to keep a diary when you are 48 years old and a month later claim there have only ever been 4 Saturdays because that's all your records show.
You may find this hard to understand, but we had hot and cold weather long before we could write, measure temperature or thought to make a note of it each day.
The whole global warming theory is based on just the data that has been written down, and then only the temperatures. Look at the bigger picture and you will see the temperature has been going up and down regularly for millions of years. It just happens that we are in an up period and can't remember colder times.
Apart from that, I don't care who says the hottest year was in the last ten years. Whoever said that didn't live through the summer of 76.0
