twofold. IN April when the tax rate reduces, we won't be able to claim back 28%, it'll drop to 25%, so we'll lose income there. (Charities will lose about £800million from this), and there's a change in processing of forms so we will be able to reclaim an estimated amount rather than having to go through each individual I think. (but to be honest, I don't know much about this one yet). Still to read up on it!!

Let us know when you do. Hopefully the gains will be more then the losses.

Some charities also allow donations via paypal. I was wondering which charges less?

I think paypal is 1.4%, but I don'y know it. Can't help there. Plus they don't take car of the Gift Aid for you. So looks like it might be cheaper, especially if you get the gift aid right (and assuming the charity is signed up to it)

    Good news though:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7278572.stm looks like I got my numbers wrong. Charities will only lose £90million through the tax change.

There is this new website called My Charity Page it says it does not a charge a commission but I don't fully understand it. Is it the same as Just giving http://www.mycharitypage.com

It looks very similar, but if charities want the same level of reporting as they get from JustGiving they have to pay a similar amount. That's my quick impression anyway. We have registered but haven't started pushing it yet - JustGiving is revolutionary enough for us!

How about setting up a system where the money goes directly to the charities bank account.

hmm, my reply seems to have disappeared.

Well, JG gets the money to the charities pretty quickly, and something else I like about it is that they notify people when someone has sponsored them, so they can thank them (it also has an auto thank you too), this means that the donors get a decent thank you quickly enough.

The charities find out when someone has set up the page, and as the money does come in pretty quick, it saves having to wait until a runner (etc) has chased everyone up. Sometimes people fail to collect the money in to, so Jg ets rid of that issue. All in all it's worth the price.

Because, on the whole, charities don't give their bank account details on their websites or headed paper, for reasons which shouldn't take long to work out!

Certainly the money from JustGiving does come in pretty quickly, and I agree with GiB that it's VFM.
