Transferring someone else's balance?

Hi,

does anyone out there know if it is possible to transfer credit card balances in someone else's name to a card in your own?

I've skim-read the small print for Citibank CC (recommended for long-life transfers) and can't see anything that says you can't.

Has anyone else done this before?

Thanks!

Its down to the card issuer to decide whether or not to allow any transfer onto their card. Typically, they will seek to prevent you transferring from certain cards that they also issue - these rules will be enforced at the BIN level (first 6 digits of a/c number)

Even if their policy is against transferring from an account that isn't in your name, then I cant see an easy way for them to actually check and prevent it.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

You can transfer whatever balance you want onto your card - maybe Dave from down the pub (he may even buy you a beer!!), but remember once its on your card, you are legally responsible for paying it back, so Dave could run off to Cyprus and you would be stuck with the Debt. All the credit company care about is that You will pay your debt your debt back to them !!
  • Thanks for the info. Luckily it's not Dave from the pub - although he tried hard!- it's for my parents. They are getting screwed by Lloyds.
