Vectra running on 3 cylinders????

Hi
after some friendly advice, have a Y reg vectra 55k petrol and for approx 18m+ have the same intermitent problem, it will 'miss' and run on 3 cylinders, chugging along with the engine management light on, will keep going and clear itself???? The light stays on for a while (sometimes days or hours) and then goes off.

Has been in to 2 garages, first code read and they replaced sensor 2nd garage code read and fitted new coil pack only for the following week for problem to start again

Question is its going back to the 2nd garage on tuesday to be code read again as hubby wants to get it sorted as he has to drive 60 miles to work and doesn't want an unreliable car, although it has had this problem for ages and not yet (touch wood) broken down.

Any one any experience of what this could possibly be, think the garages seem to think we are making it up as they can't find the fault

many thanks

It's always worth checking all the ECU sensor connections - unplug, WD40, replug.

had something similar with a turbo diesel vectra, when you hit 70,the engine management light came on and speed dropped to around 60,couldnt get any more out of it.i cant remember which sensor it was that failed to cause this.it may be different though as yours is a petrol model.

    Crank and/or Cam shaft sensors....

Most likely, only thing that ever went wrong on mine in eight years, (both)

Get the garage to remove and clean the crank sensor. Cam sensor would need to be changes if logged as suspect.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

the diagnosis is fuel injector valve is not working and needs replacing code read 3? does this make sense going to cost £200.34 inc parts labour and VAT?

These codes are great aren't they?! Lead you round in the odd circle or two. If its running a bit like a dog, could be air flow meter.

But in all probability, Cyclonebri is more than likely right - as had previous experience. Hope the garage are good with customer input!
