Sould we be expecting a BRO?

We got our court date last week and I'm so scared we will get a BRO...

In Dec we ordered lots of baby clothes which were needed as my daughter was wearing clothes that only just fit her

In January we got new mobile phones from a catalogue (I really needed one as its how I keep in contact with friends/family)

The thing thats worrying me most is in the past weeks or 2 we have got a big food shop, more baby clothes as my daughter is in need of bigger sizes again, I also had to get some new clothes because I have recently lost over a stone and am now a size 10 and have been wandering around having to pull up size 14 trousers every 2 secs :o also had to get some new trainers because the soles of mine had started to peel back and water was getting through... plus we had to withdraw bankruptcy fees and take all the money out of bank account..... this is going to look really bad isn't it because its obvious we knew we were going bankrupt  theres no way we could of afforded it otherwise though, I was thinking about the months after bankruptcy and making sure we are going to be able to manage....

What do you think, are we set to get a BRO? I really do feel so ashamed about it all and haven't been wanting to admit it on here but since some people have mentioned spending on my other post I realised we are all in the same boat.

My problem is I get really down and depressed and use spending to cheer me up

Thanks

Laura

  • I very much doubt it, your purchases are just everyday purchases, i think they are looking for large irresponsible purchases when you knew you were in trouble and making large purchases you knew you had no chance of repaying. Also debts from gambling are deemed a big no no i think.

We definately haven't spent anything on gambling (apart from lottery on the odd week but that always comes out of our actual money)

Its not a huge amount we have spent but was just worried at the fact that we used credit knowing we were going bankrupt... but not in any way because we wanted to, just because we have got ourselves in such a mess that we needed to use credit...

  • I shouldnt worry too much most of what you have put is nescesary so you should be fine, but you do need to ask yourself are you ,or how are you going to cope once BR and all 'other' sources of money have gone?

That is quite daunting as going from well put it on the card to oh i cant have it i dont have the money is a bg shock. When i looked in my little accounting book i have started this month its like oh i only have £288 left after my contribution to household expenditure to pay towards everything else and plus i'm about £50 short on the total I&E until the tax man actually gets my taxcode right, then i will have about £40 surplus a month, so i'm actually £110 short this 1st month due to having to pay out £60 today for the excess to get my van window replaced. I best get selling a few bits on ebay i think so i can get back on track. I'm sure it can only get easier:o

You dont have to tell me, its been like that ever since i went BR last year:confused: Its not easy but at least you have to manage without making it worse by upping the credit a bit more, or the stress of the creditors chasing you:rolleyes: so even though its still hard it is easier in a strange way

I don't think you have anything to worry about x

I do agree with the fact that after you go bankrupt, you suddenly realise what you can do without.

This isn't a criticism at all, but as for clothes for you and children, when you are bankrupt and have no other option, you will find that you either manage or you get some really good bargains from charity shops, eBay etc.. it will open you up to so many cheaper options. :)

It is certainly going to be a shock to the system for me. We will have to stick to a very tight budget and to be honest I think it will do me good. I'm sure it is all going to be worth it though, and although we will gain the stress of not having credit cards to turn to we will also have a huge stress lifted in regards to constant hassle from creditors.

Its such a huge and daunting thing to do I find myself thinking up new worries of why it will go wrong everyday. roll on March 12th!!

Thanks for all the advice/reassurance :T

    Thanks Tigerfeet.

I am a member of freecycle but quite often find it hard to collect items because we don't drive. Some lovely people have kindly delivered things for us though

I have just looked at our credit card statement. It hadn't been used for ages then this past week

BR Fees - £485 which were taken out first (I'm guessing we should of done this last)

after taking out BR fees approx £200 has been spent at Tesco because we totally ran out of food / baby wipes / baby milk / nappies everything and didn't have enough for it all...

    about £15 sainsburys

about £120 on Clothes for my daughter - I shouldn't of done this but she needed them

Plus the bank account been past the overdraft which I really didn't mean to do..... I feel so stupid and I'm sure the OR is going to question it all.... we wouldn't ever spend that much as teso/sainsburys in a week but we were on bare minimum for everything... Mother In Law has been helping us out with things like that every month, but we haven't had any help this month so it looks like we have overspent on purpose..... I'm starting to feel like we shouldn't go ahead with it but we are in such a mess
