what do you give your children for their birthday present?
my child is 12 and ever since she was 10 all she wanted was cash so she can go out and get herself something she really wants.
this is fine with me, but how much would you give your children if they asked for cash not gift?
since the age of 10, i gave her £50, next year for her 13th i'll give her £100 (for turning a teenager) but after that not sure what to give.
advice please on 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18
parties are not an issue just gift amounts please
thanks

All depends on what you can afford I spose but My kids are similar age and we usually take them and a few friends bowling or something similar and give £20 pounds in card.
This probably ends up costing us more than the said £50 per child and as my kids have birthdays within 2 weeks of each other becomes rather costly . Im trying to budget for next May (when birthdays are) so it doesnt leave me skint as it has on the last few years.
Might even have a joint bowling session to keep costs down but dunno if kids would be up for thatMake £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -
Lucky girl, I got £50 for my 18th and was happy with that
For her 14, 15 and 16th, stick with £100 when she gets to 17 she'll probley want a car (and insurance :rotfl: )
And when she gets to 18, it'll probley depend on where her life and lifestyle is going (ie uni, work, family) as to what money you give her (and what you can aford in 5 or 6 years time).I remember when this was just a little website! :money:0 -
My daughter will be 13 at the end of this year and she has asked for money for a clothes shopping spree. This is fine with me as I would rather give her money than a present she may not really appreciate. I had thought about giving her £100.
I hadn't thought about her 14th, 15th, 16th..... I think I'll take my cue from her as long as it's not too expensive!
You could keep giving £100 every birthday until your child is 17 and then make it special, give more or buy an additionnal present for her 18th birthday, for becoming an adult."There is something about the presence of a cat...that seems to take the bite out of being alone.” Louis Camuti0 -

Hi, im 20 and through my teenage yrs i got money as a gift from my parents too, usually £50 and out for a meal with folks and one friend. or money and bowling or something im sure when i was fourteen i had a sleepover with my parents out for most of the night - didnt get up to mischeif (i am a good girl!) then for 17th i got £100 off parents and grandparents to put towards my driving lessons, by 18 i had just got my own place so i got stuff for the house 19th clothes and money and this year i have asked for ghd straightners. my family has a thing where after your 21 you only get £10 for birthdays and £50 for xmas(but now i have to share that with my partner, knew there would be a downside to getting married, lol) anyway you should probably sound her out so waht she thinks is reasonable. hope this helps.Snootchie Bootchies!0
