Hi everyone my names Adam,
Im new to this site and from looking around im in a different kind of situation to a lot of you. I dont have any debts. No credit cards or loans nor do I have a car on HP etc. But I have to save lots of money in order to get a deposit for a house.
I have used the budget planner and realised how much money im wasting on things like meals and going out. So Ive rectified that element of my lifestyle also ive set up my own speadsheet noting down every penny that I spend and although ive only been doing so for the last week I do believe this will make a difference.
my point is although Im saving as much of my salary as I can I would like a higher income. I dont have the time to make small amounts from clicking banners and reviewing things at the moment. So Im going to get my self part time work but what I do have is an idea for a business I would like to get off the ground and realised there are many people on this site that would have the skills and ideas to get involved. So what I am propsing is a new forum in which If anyone has an Idea like mine thay could get together with others and try to make it work.
Anyway ive rattled on for quite a while. Ill keep you all posted with how i get on with my savings.
Great site by the way!

me too  I'm doing the same as you basically, although my saving isn't for a house, that is far too responsible for me! Exactly the kind of thing I am getting away from! I am saving for travelling, but it is the same principle. Some how last month I managed to save £900, £300 more than the previous month! It was basically the writing everything down thing that did it, it works wonders....you don't buy stuff cuz you know you'll have to write it on the spread sheet when you get in! I have a savers diary in the 'what have you saved?' section-although I haven't updated it...
Good luck, and let us know how you get on

yeah Ill let you know how I get on
Im quite lucky in a way because (sadly) my girlfriends nan died and left her enough money to cover her part of the deposit. So we have made an agreement that any costs such meals and activities like squash she will pay for as long as I make a conscious effort to save, LOTS. It seems to work quite well as I do it not only for the cause but I dont want to let her down as shes paying for everything.
The one thing I really feel like I should do though Is get myself a part time job on to of my full time one, but Im finding convincing myself to do it the hardest part.0 -
alrite again
Just a little update I just used ebay to sell something Ive been meaning to for ages and its paid for my snowboard holiday!
Its given me the bug now and got me addicted again. Just looking at everything a something to sell now :j
And keep my daily spending records has really taught me to cut back I try not to even buy a bottle of water because id have to write it down0 -
Good going

Re: the bottle of water thing, I'm like that!
the other day I was making a sarnie for work and had this lil debate with my brother (earlier in the day I had impressed him with my saving total for feb and he had said "God, counting pennies really works" he is also saving, but doesn't note everything down)
Him: Rachel, dont make a sarnie just get the sandwichman.....
Me: Can't afford it
Him: Time is money. You will take 10mins to make that, 10mins of your time 10 mins of my time that's 20mins, which is worth more than £2.
Me: Yeah but I'm not counting your time and I'd quite happily spend 10mins making a sarnie to save £2.
Him: No, but it is 20 mins and it isn't worth it.
Me: I'm just counting my pennies.
Him:.................
I win! :rotfl:
What on earth did you sell to buy a holiday? Can I have one? hehe0 -
Even £2 for 20 mins works out to £6 ph and for a lot of people (including me!) and post tax, thats quite a lot!!Grass_Stained_Feet wrote: »Him: Time is money. You will take 10mins to make that, 10mins of your time 10 mins of my time that's 20mins, which is worth more than £2.0 -
