Without a receipt, they do not have to give you your money back, but offer a voucher against another product or repleacement.

Without proof of purchase they are not legally obliged to give you a refund, vouchers or a replacement. The fact that other stores do is irrelevant.

A receipt is proof of purchase, but proof of purchase may also be something other than the receipt e.g. cheque stub, credit card slip, bank statement, witness statement, etc.

But what is the problem with REPLACING an item that is clearly theirs (has Entertainer emblazoned across said product) and could be no one elses> I will not shop there anymore, okay this item was only a few pounds but what if I bought something for say £50 and lost the receipt, tough? Any store with decent customer service policies would not have a problem with it, this policy has just cost them hundreds of pounds a year, and I know others who have made the same decision......

They have decided not to, the same as you have decided not to shop there. Seems fine to me.
