I also have no advice to offer, just support! - but I found out I will most likely be made redundant soon. We were told that we will find out more on 10 march last week. So now noone knows if their jobs are safe, and also noone is really motivated to do anything!

We are lucky in that we have a 90 day 'consultation period' from 10 March where they decide who is going to leave, then I think we get a months notice, any bonus or holiday pay due, and then have to leave.

Its a shame because I have only been here 6 months, was just getting into the job, and it seemed as if the company was expanding our department - then suddenly this! Rubbish!

Good luck! I have sent my CV out to about a hundred and one recruitment agencies and also applied direct to a few jobs, although not as desperate for a job yet as I have a good 3 months!

Well i hope you find something. Even if i am offered a position i will be on a months trial so i would still be in a vulnerable position. The flat i am buying is due to complete in a fortnight ???!!!!

  • Hi cantcope- I wanted to pop my head and say I'm sorry to hear you have MS.
Both my mum and nan have it and like you say with varying degrees. Nan is in far better shape than my mum, who is really debilitated with it.

I know my mum never disclosed that she had MS when she was still working, but it's a difficult one to call. It did cause her problems in that she kept it to herself, and didn't trust work collegues with that info, so she told no one.
I wasn't even allowed to tell my friends, and that was really difficult for me as I couldn't explain why mum couldn't do this, or that, or why I couldn't really have friends round.

Mum also missed out on friendship at work too and the social side of things. People stopped asking her out, as they assumed that she was not up for it, or off with them. She feared letting the 'secret' out and having her MS play on her when she was tired, or the fear of falling over kept her out of the circle. She is a sternly proud woman though and this hasn't been of any use to her at all! Instead it hampered her. (My Nan is quite the opposite to my mum in attitudes though....!)

On the one hand, you know what you are capable of and how your health stands at the minute, so you are best judge on this.
On the other hand it may be better to come out with it, as possible 'attacks' or low periods may cause you to have time off work- again only you may be able to judge this. If at some point you need to tell them, could they find out when exactly you were diagnosed??

It may also be something that you want to talk about at work, once you get acquainted with people, or they might know someone that you know and it could get passed on this way. People like to talk.... (that's my mother speaking.... darn it)

The companies may get funny about you not disclosing it to begin with.

Think it through and have a word with you GP and see what he/she says. They may be able to offer a bit more insight as to what needs to be known.

    Good luck with it all!

No news today. The director who interviewed me yesterday and said i would know today decided to work from home today and wont be making a decision until monday now.
I have been told to go into work and help out in the accounts department next week.
    What a farce
