Can i still get housing benefit?

Due to some hard times we have had to move in with my parents in there 2 bed council flat. I also have a young daughter.
Currently the O/H's parents pay full rent. Can we get any form of housing benefit to place towards the rent? I'm currently working 16hrs on a very low wage earning approx 40-50 per week.

Hello, I dont think they will pay housing benefit if you are renting from a relation. Best to check with them though.
Just found this from one website....
What happens if I live with a close relative and they charge me rent?
If you live with one of the following people and they are also your landlord you can not claim Housing Benefit:
    • A parent, step parent or parent in law
    • A brother or sister
    • A son or daughter
    • A son in law or daughter in law
    • A step son or step daughter
    • A partner of any of the previously mentioned people

Am I missing something? You are working 16 hours a week, but only getting max £50 a week?:o
  • Unfortunately, if you can't afford to pay rent then relatives are expected to put you up rent-free or turf you out on the street for you to go into homeless accommodation (e.g. a b&b) and claim housing benefit far in excess of what you'd pay to relatives. The system is insane.
