BUT: To counter the misuse of our network and to reserve capacity for our genuine testers, we have limited our Free-Calls policy to 1 minute per call. If you want to enjoy UNLIMITED free calls, just register and buy 1 euro worth of credit.

That's okay - its the sort of thing I'd do......

..... but at least, these days, I get offers like that checked out on here, before jumping in feet first and wasting my time (or, even worse, my money!!)

    ;)
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.
  • You do get free calls from VoIPCheap - I have been using it for a few days.

The 'discounted rates' applies to areas other than the free zones of the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands, or to mobiles and 0845/08700 numbers.

For absolutely no money you get get calls which are time limited to 2 minutes.

To get no time limit on your calls you just need to put £1 of credit into your 'account' via your credit or debit card. If calling UK, Ireland or Netherlands LANDLINES ONLY your call will not take any money from your credit balance.

This means you call also use the program from other than the UK, e.g. the US, to call UK landlines for free via a broadband connection.

Therefore, thanks to the OP, as this is a good freebie.

Spot on, Cooper. I've been using this for a couple of days also. Set up is a dream (just need a username and password). A friend of mine has also set this up after seeing mine, but we're both having problems with the output breaking up (what the person you ring hears). Have you had similar problems?

If so, how did you solve it? If not, which ISP are you using and what sort of connection....Dial Up, Broadband, 512KB/sec, 1MB/sec? I thought at first it was a sound card problem, but I'm wondering if I just don't have enough bandwidth on my connection (NTL, Broadband, 512KB/sec)?
  • I'm using a 2MB NTL broadband connection. I've only had a little breakup of sound when browsing graphics intensive sites at the same time as chatting.

Check to make sure you don't have any spyware/adware accessing the net in the background.

Have a google for "spybot search & destroy" or "adaware" or "spybouncer" as they will check what's what for you and identify any dodgy software.

If you have ever installed Kazaa or the like you may have sound things on your PC you didn't know were there.

Thanks for the reply, Cooper. There shouldn't be any spyware - I regularly run Spybot, Ad-aware and Pest Patrol.

Obviously you have nearly 4 times the bandwidth I do, so I tend to think that's where the problem lies.

    http://www.voipbuster.com/en/index.html

Used it for a few days and its fab. Works on the same principle as voicecheap but has miles more free destinations.

Just pay 1 euro and the call length becomes unlimited. Works well too.

I usually do this; I think I was a bit quick off the mark when I spotted this offer.
