I've got current accounts with NatWest and an online bank and I've never been charged to receive BACS transfers. There are charges for CHAPS transfers which are same day though.

I use online banking - so how would I set one up to buy or sell on e bay ?

To receive a payment, just give the buyer your banks sort code, account number and the name the account is held in (yours, presumably)

To make a payment, you need the sellers details as above, there should be an option on your banks site to send a payment, usually worded 'make payment', 'make transfer', 'make BACS transfer' or something similar.

So basically bank transfers are no safer for the seller than paypal?

Posting bank notes with stamps on is probably safer than Praypal.

People stick with what they know. In hundreds and hundreds of transactions I have never yet had a problem with paypal, yet in fewer transactions involving cheques, postal orders and cash have had many problems.
