Department of Work and Pensions - the people who pay all the benefits. NO, they wouldn't care about the Will. A Will is not a way of avoiding benefit rules.

Not strictly true. Refer back to my post about the wording of the will.

Only the DWP could answer that question (and you would need to get it in writing in case of any future confusion). It is more likely to be ok, but no one on here could be sure x

  • Hiya Ladies & Gents...
I am on various Benefits as i am disabled & have a 3yr old son. I was interested to see that i am allowed £6,000 in savings & still qualify for benefits. Through being an avid reader this past 1.5yrs of MSE site, i have scrimped & cut corners until i was finally awarded my full benefit entitlement (even though i suffered my RTA accident in '98). I now am the proud owner of my 1st ISA with £25 stashed away :D:D and another £22 in £2 coins. I am so proud of myself. Just wish the little 1 wasn't such a fussy eater. I am hoping to scrimp some more over the next few months to be able to get driving lessons & a car. As this way, the DLA won't take my mobility entitlement if i buy my own car. If i got thru the DLA then i will be charged per mile if i exceed the milage quota per yr. All my family moved down south so to me, that's not worth going thru that, would rather buy my own car. I think i am entitled to free tax/ins.
Thanx to all who participate in these threads as they're invaluable to ppl like me.
Take care & keep up the good work.

    Hi Grotty,

Welcome to the Benefits board, and good luck with your plans. Your attitude is really refreshing, I hope your driving lessons go well! x

Grotbags you would get inclusive insurance with the DLA hire cars but not if buying one, sometimes it's worthwhile in itself for the insurance because certain disabilities can increase premiums, something worth looking into before deciding. You will still get the free tax however if you are on higher rate mobility.
One day I might be more organised...........
