need new freezer

Hi, I hope I have put this thread in the right place. I need a new chest freezer, just a small one. I have tried the usual places like Comet and Currys. Where else should I try? I just need the cheapest this going as its only used for pet food and kept in the garage. I don't want a second hand one as they seem to be false economy.
Thanks, Tracey

Have you tried Iceland? My local one seems to have a reasonable selection of chest freezers and they don't seem to be too badly priced.
Or, have you looked on ebay? We had to buy a fridge/freezer and washing machine and we chose to get 'graded' ones off a seller on ebay. They're perfectly fine, they just tend to have a bit of fairly minor cosmetic damage on them (scratches, dented corners etc) but if you're keeping it in the garage then this won't matter. You can make some really good savings - we got Bosch items for about half the price of 'new'.0 -

Hi, a graded item, such a simple idea, why didn't I think of that?
Thank you very much, I thick I will have to be less careful with the push chair in the electrical dept. in future. (only joking)
Thanks again, Tracey0 -
If you're keeping it in the garage and dont mind a less than perfect looking freezer how about trying freecycle? The good thing about getting an older freezer will be that it will have the older gas inside that whilst not being eco-friendly it is more suited to a freezer kept in an unheated enviroment as the newer freezers tend to get a bit touchy in extremely cold weather and can blow the seals on the compresser unit

Hiya,

The shopping enthusiasts on the I Wanna (do it or buy it) board should be able to help you with this one, so I'll move the post across for you.
Good luck

You'd be suprised how good some second hand ones can be, as an example £30 few months old, seller changing colour scheme in kitchen, they paid £300 for it. Have a look through local free ads and on ebay see if there is anything decent available. One day I might be more organised...........

GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
I picked on up on Freecycle last week - its better than the one we've already got!0

Try Miller Brothers: www.millerbros.co.uk
I bought my last fridge-freezer from them and it was £100 cheaper than any other online price for the same model. They probably have similarly competitive prices for chest freezers.
The only drawback is that they dump it in your kitchen, rather than unpackage it and take the old one away.
But a small price to pay for the saving!0 -
Loads on ebay - just search for chest freezers, then select within say 10 miles of your postcode if you're able to collect - they're going for between £20 and £50 at the mo.
