Please feel free to move this if it's in the wrong place i didn't really know where to post.
I used the self scan machine at my local tesco the other day and spent £15 i entered my CC and pin number but when it said remove card when i did the whole system crashed and the SA coudn't get the till working again it did not print a reciept so the SA said the transaction hadn't gone through and i would have to go to a normal till and pay again. I explained that the till had acepted my payment but they insisted it had'nt and made me go to another till. They promised i woud'nt have been charged as they can see from their main computer at the self service tills. However on looking at my account on-line they HAVE charged me twice. I am going in today to get a refund i will be very happy to get my money back but should i get double the diffrence as an over charge? and will they believe me as they will just say that i went in again and bought things, there really isn't any proof i didn't.

Forget about compensation, you'll most likely get a refund of the errored transaction & have to be happy with it. They'd be stretching the imagination a bit too far if they try to say you spent the exact same amount twice within a couple of minutes of each other in the same shop. Just don't forget the receipt you did get.Winnings

Best to stick to the refund for the double charge...they have all teh details to hand and if you try to be smart they will catch you out.0

I hate those self scan tills! I very rarely use them. All they seem to do if I use them is refuse to scan anything properly and just keep repeating stupid messages at me that don't make any sense.
It takes me three times as long to go through the checkout. I've scanned the items, packed them and done the card transaction. AND I've paid for the privilege of doing Tescos job for them. If an assistant comes over to help out they look at you as though you are stupid.
I came away in such a bad temper I have vowed never to use one again.0 -
Well after Going in on saturday with my bank statement and explained to them what happened i was told that there was not any one authorised to do refunds at the weekend and can i come back some other time:mad: just feel i am being messed around by them.:)Mummy to 2 wonderful boysWant to be fit for 30 not fat at 30but i want never gets!!!0

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. So there is no one qualified to do a refund on their busiest day of the week? I smell BS:eek: That is terrible customer service, i would have refused to leave til they did it for me. Any manager could have done it, i'd assume they would have a manager on!The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

thats crap
did you goto the customer service desk in the store?
if so i would have spoken to the store manager and complained - after all they have got your money for a couple of days earning them interest.0 -

I'm not sure what you mean when you say they will catch the OP out...she hasn't done anything to be caught out for!! The OP has nothing to lose by asking them to invoke the "if it doesn't add up" policy because it DOESN'T add up! The OP was charged twice. I would be inclined to give it a go after all, it's their policy and whats the worst they can say?...."no, here's your refund."
As for the noone available to do a refund...load of rubbish!! They HAVE to have someone on the customer services desk. Best way I ever found to get the stores attention was to stand in the queue at customer services and telephone the store on my mobile asking to speak to the manager. I then told him I was in the store and I would appreciate it if he would come down to the shop floor to discuss an issue with me....he did.
Good luck OP, hope you have successGood Enough Club member number 27(2) AND I got me a stalkee!

Yes we went to customer services after standing in line for a while with a fed up child the SA even said your going to hate me but we can't do it today. If i hadn't got my then screaming son with me i would have stood my ground but it was to much of a hassle. Wrong day to try and go i know but the weekend is the chance i can go other than at night as it's a 24hr one but bet there won't be anyone who can do it then either. I will def stand my ground next time and make sure they know i was turned away last time. I will keep you posted of what happens.:)Mummy to 2 wonderful boysWant to be fit for 30 not fat at 30but i want never gets!!!0

Also ask them for the reasonable costs incurred in you returning to the store ie petrol money / bus fare / car parking.0
