I would be highly curious to find out how often you drive around central London?
If you don't then you have absolutely no idea what i'm talking about.
There are loads of the no entry boxes around in London and it is very easy to unintentionally stop in one due to very heavy traffic and because someone's stalled in front of you.
Please spend the following week driving around central London and then perhaps after you've inoccently accumulated a shed load of fines you might know where i'm coming from.0 -
smidge wrote:My story is i got GATSOed for speeding i was doing 50mph in a 50mph zone but because i was driving at 17tonne wagon i was supossed to be doing 40mph my argument being i was on a duel carrageway and the GATSO was possitioned litterally 10 yards after the speed sign that said 50mph. I can't slow a wagon down fully loaded in that time ........... I appeared in court to state my case and guess what i ended up with a £450 fine instead of a £60 fine because it was up to me to prove myself innocent.

In all honesty, given that you know full well you should have slowed down prior, to entering the 40MPH limit, I don't see how you could possibly have hoped to get off with it and pointing out the difficulty you have in slowing a fully loaded 17 Tonne truck only serves to highlight the need for you to observe speed limits... IMHO. :rolleyes:The MSE Dictionary

"Very heavy traffic" does NOT cut it.
One major REASON that traffic in cities is a disaster is because of useless drivers blocking junctions - which then means that gridlock results.
As another post said, if you can't exit the junction, don't enter it - box junction or not - it's just common sense and good driving practice IMHO.0 -

Heavy traffic is no excuse whatsoever. The law is perfectly clear: don't enter the box if you cannot leave it. If you can't see heavy traffic a few meters ahead, please keep off the road.
How often does someone stall in front of you while they are moving (as indeed they would have to be, otherwise your exit would not be clear and you should not be behind them) across a yellow box junction?
And not that it's of any relevance, but I have driven in central London 4 times this year. I did not stop on any yellow boxes.0 -
I was taught NOT to enter the box unless your exit is clear or you are turning right, then it is ok to do so. Otherwise it can be classed as a driving offence.0

Succinctly put.
THis web site:
http://www.theopenroad.co.uk/static_59.htm
States:
"Box junctions--
There is one more type of marked junction that may cause confusion – yellow boxes. Some traffic light controlled junctions will have a yellow box. These are criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road. You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right."
There is no defence for 'heavy traffic'.
The one thing that does worry me though is how you can prove you weren't waiting to turn right, legally, if a photo is taken from the wrong angle?
Oh and yes, I'm a Londoner so am used to yellow boxes plastered all over the roads.

Ok...i may be being very silly...but...
do all traffic lights have cameras?? I VERY stupidly went through a red light in Edmonton a few days ago, i honestly did not do it on purpose. I was lost and very flustered! Was searching for a road and OOPS that was a red light wasnt it. Hmmm I cursed myself!:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and setting fire to my knickers:starmod: :staradmin :starmod:0
