For civil service I had to do a test for an Admin Officer job - it was a speed test to see how fast I could do things like put names in alphabetical order, a maths test and stuff like that. For an external higher grade job the test was to determine what sort of person I was - questions like: whilst signing people on, you notice that a customer who has already left, dropped a £10 note on the floor. Do you a) keep it, b) buy cream cakes for your colleagues, c) phone all the customers you have signed and ask if they have lost anything.
Of course I answered C but really I may not have been so honest lol. It was about answering how you think that they wanted you to rather than you being truely honest!!!0 -
I had an interview as a Housing Assistant for another Midlands Council, which involved taking rents and Council Tax payment from members of the public, I had a test involving maths, (adding up and working out change).
For an Admin Assistant with the same Council I had a filing and typing test.
For my job in Planning with the same Council, as a Technician, I had to read some plans and measure using a scale ruler.
I think it's usual for Council jobs.
Good luck!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
