I have a HP Pavilion DV9657 with a DVB-T tv tuner.
TV reception using Windows Media Centre is fine but I cannot download the EPG guide.
Is this possible in the UK ?

It depends what you want - if you just want the basic 7-day EPG which is transmitted over the airwaves, you just need to set the EPG to pick that up - the term EIT is often used to describe that version.
There are other versions which show further into the future, such as the Radio Times one in the UK, which is accessed via (IIRC) an XMLTV "grabber".
I have used both on my MythTV box, and while the latter should in theory be better, my experience was that it wasn't, as it seemed to have more mistakes and formatting errors.0 -
I have an external usb tv tuner which gets the EPG fine.
Th HP express tv card is configured using windows media centre, and each time I attempt to get listings if fails with unknown connection error.
Internet connection is working fine.0 -
Have you tried to receive the ~transmitted~ EPG?
You shouldn't need an internet connection for that to work - it's transmitted within the DVB-T signal.0 -
That's the problem, WMC does not use the transmitted EPG, it obtains it via the net somehow.
There is no 3rd party software with this tv tuner, is came bundled with Vista Premium and WMC.
Its not a major issue, but it's bugging me at the moment.0 -
Have you set WMC up for the correct region?0

Ah Ok - sorry, didn't know that, having never used WMC! Wonder why they didn't include such an obviously useful option? Perhaps they don't have EIT in the US, in which case M$ would not have even considered implementing it...
Have you tried using GB-PVR instead of WMC (just kidding!).0 -
Must be Windows Media Centre, I have just managed to get an EPG when using the bundled HP Quickplay software.0

MCE provides a 14 day EPG via the 'net, so you need an internet connection to use it (obvious!)
How to set it up? Well - this is for XP MCE, but vista is virtually the same.
From MCE interface, SETTINGS -> TV -> GUIDE -> Set up guide listings -> just follow the wizard and tell it that you want to use the guide.0 -
That is exactly what I have been doing, but everytime I get an "unknown connection error"
This has been tried with F/Wall and A/V disabled, but still same result.0
