Be Aware Argos Or Homebase

I ordered a dining table and 6 chairs from Homebase (which is in fact Argos) on the 4th January. I paid online the full amount £300 and it stated the item was in stock and it was a 4 week delivery. 31st January I received a letter stating there was a delay and the items would not be ready for despatch until 27th February.
Today I have rang Homebase Argos, and was told the item will no longer be delivered to us because the supplier of the dining set cannot do it at the reduced price therefore they won't make any money.
I would imagine there has been hundreds of people who purchased this online offer for a walnut and glass table with 6 chairs for £300. So Homebase and Argos have made alot of money just on the interest.
Can I also add, it was me who rang them to find out what was happening because I had not heard anything since 31st January. I wonder how long it would have taken Homebase Argos to notify me of the bad news. No doubt they would never have called or wrote to me because the longer they have got your money the longer they make interest.
I have spoken to a Manager and stated that I want interest on the £300 they have had since 4th January plus recompense for the inconvenience, we gave our last dining set to friends in anticipation of our new dining set.

That'll be £1.31 interest (gross), assuming the current BOE rate is used for the interest rate. I doubt whether you will get much in compensation - maybe vouchers worth a few pounds."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Base rate is currently 5.25%.
£300 for two months (beginning January when order was placed to beginning March when presumably the refund will be received) at 5.25%
= £2.620 -
The person who told you they could no longer get the item at the reduced price etc obviously has a degree in diplomacy:rolleyes: .
Most places would have said they simply couldnt supply it-thats a bit easier to swallow, isnt it.Sometimes demand outstrips supply.
Why is that hard to understand? Disappointing,I know.0 -
Do you mean this:
http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=20001&partNumber=6027678
Presuming this is yours, the item is still available to order and you would have got it if you'd waited for it come into stock.0 -
Ummm, sorry to point it out, but the OP had bought it at £300 - that item is priced at £430 - that's probably why they're annoyed!

No that's not the table & chairs I ordered. They were called "Noah" and at the time of paying it stated on website that the item was in stock.
Normally if there is a delay on orders it states that on the website, such as 2-3wks or out of stock.0
