Windows 98 Start Up Problem

Hi everyone hope you can help?

I have for the past three days never been able to log onto my computer.

I keep getting windows protection errors or a blue screen with a vxd message.

What could the problem be it will only let me go in through safe mode.

I have tried to change msconifg but is still wont i there a program to sort this out?

More likely to be one of MEMORY - HEAT - POWER.

For heat, when was the last time you cleaned all the fans and vents on your pc to remove dust & debis? Try running the pc with the sides off and see if that improves.

For memory, you can run a test to check if it's starting to give up the ghost. Go to https://www.memtest.org, download and run the tests from the boot floppy that the download lets you make.

Could be that your power supply unit (psu) is on its way out. No easy way to check this. Try looking at the voltages in your bios, or download a freeware app called Speedfan and check there. If your +12V and +5V values are unstable and significantly below the nominal values of 12 & 5 then it may be a psu problem.

Alternatively you can disconnect every single component inside your pc except main hard disk, one memory stick, graphics card, cpu and motherboard. This is min power config. Try and see if it runs like that:
