New boiler pump...is it neccesary?

Hi.We are lucky enough to own a static caravan in somerset but have problems with the boiler.
Basically,we pay the site owners to drain the system at the end of the season, then again to refill and check for leaks etc..
I was told that the system had been refilled on the 11th Feb.
When i visited the van 12 days later, the thermostat had been left on 25 degrees by the workmen and although the pump was running, there was no heating and no hot water.
I pressed the trip switch on top of the boiler but still no heating or hot water.
When i notified the site owners that the boiler had been running for 12 days, they said that they leave it running for a certain amount of time to check its working ok.
12 days??????
Since then, the workmen have informed the site owners that i need a new pump to correct the problem.
This will be £97 for pump+£47 labour.
Surely it doesnt need a new pump does it?(Boiler is 5 years old).
Im no plumber/electrician,but as the boiler worked perfectly when i left last year, the fault lies with the workmen.
Any help appreciated.
Many thanks

If the pump was running I would think it was something else causing problems.

  • Thats what i thought.
The pump isnt making any strange noises and starts immediatly the thermostat is switched on.
Ive read somewhere that that a boiler will continue to trip out if there is insufficient water in the system(i may be wrong).
If this is correct, maybe the workmen didnt do their job properly and i could save myself £146.

Yes. It should trip if there is no water in the system as it'll over heat. Is it an external pump? If the pipework on either side of the pump is different temperatures then it may be faulty.

  • A pump is around 50 pounds, it sounds to me as if your boiler is not firing. Also why do you drain and refil it every year, no need for this.

    Thank you for replies.
Not sure what you mean by external pump though.
The pump is housed inside the front cover.
We were advised by the caravan park owners to have the system drained down at the end of the season as due to the cold temperatures, the system may freeze.
Its a "WORCESTER 24i RSF" Wall mounted combination boiler.
