I want to replace my existing V plate mondeo with a used Mondeo 3/4 years old. I would like a 2.0 TDCi. I have been looking in AuotTrader for either a Zetec or Ghia spec, however if I don't mind a few extra miles, I found I can even get a Ghia X with all the toys and leather interior.

I have a budget of £6k.

Are 70-80k mileages OK on these cars?
I don;t mind too many miles as I only do about 6-8k a year myself.

Any advice as what to look for and what to avoid?

I bought my 04 plate with 103,000 miles on and it looks and drives like new. A shedload of ex-fleet with full main dealer service history out there so don't settle for anything less.

Main thing to look out for is knocking from the rear as subframe bushes are known for failing. Go for the TDCi 130 if you can.
  • Common problem, simple fix. Main thing to watch out for on them is the flywheel rattling and clonking. Getting a bit fed up of doing them now!
But I continue to buy the as they are a briliant seller!

6000 should buy you a Ghia or even a Ghia X wit ha few miles on.
  • I don't know your location, but I bought my Focus from a garage in Sussex - they only deal with Ford cars - most of them are ex lease cars - mine only had 2k on it when I got it a few weeks back.

They had loads there - some only a few months old, to some several years old. Great selection - if you want details of the place let me know. I'd mention them on here, but think that is advertising?

That sounds just perfect, but where do I find these cars? I have looked on AutoTrader and can't find anything close to that.

FYI, I am based in North Hampshire, near Fleet (GU51). I am happy to travel up to about 40/50 miles to source a new car.

I would also like to p/x my existing "V" plate Mondeo 2.0 petrol Zetec. It has 75k on the clock and is in pretty good condition. Any idea how much I could expect to get for it?

That one I sold was on autotrader, but it depends on what distance you chose from the drop down menu.

You should get offers around £1000 for your Mondeo.
Some places will offer you say, £2000, but will be charging you 7395 for an identical Mondeo - you have to do the maths and work out what you're getting for your money etc...
