I think what smithja is possibly slightly confusing things. If you ask for an additonal cardholder on an existing account that is just in your name initially, then no financial link is or ever will be created. If however, you make a joint application for a credit card account which is being referred to above, then a link will be created and all applicants would be jointly liable for debt. These accounts are increasingly rare though0

Barclaycard don't do a check, just phone up and you can add anyone you like. You don't even have to be related!Krusty & Phil Madoff, 1990 - 2007:

I have another thread on tis question but i am looking to find a CC that i will be the main holder and my 16yr daughter will be a second card holder. I have no problem taking on all liability for any debts. it will only be used to pay hotels bills abroad which is more convenient than her carrying travlers chqs.

You may have trouble doing this, there's been some recent changes to the regulations regarding additional cardholders, principally it means they must be over 18, related to main cardholder, and live at same address.
However, they dont check the information you give them and take your word for it - basically just to cover their !!!!!!, so do with that what you will0 -

A word of warning here, I am sure Jamlfatty is correct in that the Credit Card companies don't check the information that you give them, however if there was a problem (for example a dispute over fraudulent transactions) in the future, and it emerged that you had lied on an application form, then any claims that you may have with the company are likely to be dismissed.0
