I've got the hang of the layout now.
Does he have spaces too?
Is there any benefit to having the spaces that you've got? Or could you benefit by swapping with his spaces?
I'm thinking long-term here and thinking that if he has better spaces than you have, it might be worthwhile swapping. However, I can appreciate that having the two against his house might be the best ones.0 -
I'd day 'yes' to this one-off request, assuming there is no alternative access route, but take steps to render the gate useless in the future by nailing a some pieces of wood across it (I assume it 'opens' into your neighbours property, and not into your car port)."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Providing your neighbour was polite when asking and seemed a nice kind of guy, I would have definitely let him use it. You can tell him that you don't want it to be a regular thing. Tbh if I lived next to you and had asked nicely and you looked shocked and said no, I would think you were a PITA.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

he parks in front of his house on a driveway, my house does not technically have a driveway, but we can park, right in front of our house. I can't drive/don't want to drive, so we only have 1 car. there are 2 spaces next to our carport, but they belong to other neighbours, so we can't really swop. I have just spoken to dh regarding the neighbours building work, and argued on their behalf, but he is being stubborn. he thinks its their problem if they bought a house with no side access etc. He wants the gate removed. Though he is not adverse to things being passed over the fence to get to the skip. His view is, that neighbours only have a fence, and they can work their logistical problems around that fact, as long as there is no gate. I feel a bit mean about it really, though he is going to talk to him at the weekend.0

This is pretty petty.. you don't mind the neighbours builders walking over your land and passing stuff over the gate but you don't want them opening the gate?????0 -
Hey I was saying what I would think if I lived next door to you. Getting on with your neighbours, to me, is important.
I would think you were being a PITA if I lived next door to you, I don't, so don't worry.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Afterwards, if you want to make sure it can't be used again, plant some Russian vine to grow over it.
Damn stuff has grown 6 inches in one week in my neglected garden, so it will really block the gate afterwards.
You will be pruning forever more and it will go over to next door, but that gate will be blocked.Always another chapter0
