Cat-It drinking fountain

Hi,
I'm concerned that my cat isn't drinking enough water.
He's often trying to jump up and drink from the kitchen sink but I don't want him on my kitchen work surfaces.
I wash his water bowl daily and I've noticed he's more interested when I fill up his bowl from a jug. Maybe he wants to drink from running water...
Anyway, I found this cat water fountain on Amazon.

It's not cheap but all the reviewers like it.
Does anyone here have this? Does the cat like it?
Another concern is that unlike a simple bowl of water, this needs to be plugged in and uses electricity. How much electricity does it us? I'm not hot on gadgets and restrict the use to a minimum. I guess I could plug it into a timer.
Any feedback much appreciated.

well it looks sweet.. :rotfl:
does your cat go outdoors? if so, is it possible that it drinks whilst it is out? puddles, lakes, etc?
i wouldn't worry so much, if it's thirsty i'm sure it will drink.. £25 on the fountain seems a lot for a fussy cat..BSC Member 155

Our cat was the same. Wasn't interested in drinking out of a bowl but loved it if she saw water dripping from somewhere. Now we let her sit in the bath, let the tap drip slowly and now she drinks water like there's no tomorrow! Othertimes we will put the plug in and leave a little puddle of water in the bath and she loves drinking from that too.0

Mine has a bowl of water in the kitchen but much prefers a puddle, or some standing water in a flowerpot outside, and he's not above helping himself from a glass on the bedside table. Don't worry too much, if he can get out and about he won't be short of water.0

I had a cat that was exactly the same - wouldn't drink from a bowl unless it was freshly filled and loved drinking from taps and puddles. I've heard that they're not keen on the chemical taste of standing tap water, although I'm not sure how true this is. I'd always wondered whether he would've drunk a bit more if we'd have got one of these recirculating drinking fountains for him, but he was the fussy sort who liked the attention of me filling his bowl up lol.0

Hi ThriftySquirrel,
I have a cat water fountain - in fact the very same as advertised on Amazon.
Not sure about how much electric it uses, but I have 2 cats, one who drinks from outside pond... and the other who loves the water fountain.
I bought it as I don't like the idea of water sat still all day, and the water fountain continually filters the water.
Negative side it needs cleaning every week to remove any green algae and the filters x 2 need replacing every year.
If you need any further info I am happy to help just PP me.

Hi
We have one of those Cat-It water fountains, and a 'Fresh Flow pet fountain'.
We first got the Fresh Flow one because we have a cat who used to daily drink from the bathroom tap - a habit he had from a kitten but he is now 15 and can't quite balance the way he used to and can't get to the tap, also we have a cat with Kidney disease and it is important that he drinks plenty.
Anyway the first time we switched on the fountain the cats were scared of it (the pump makes a noise - it quite quiet but they weren't sure of it), but within 3 days they were drinking from it.
The fresh Flow fountain is very smart looking, its quite small and the filters can be bought from pets at home, we change the filters about once a month and find with 5 cats it needs refilling about once a day.
The Cat - It one is a bit bigger and it holds more water so only have to refill it every 2-3 days, I don't think its as smart looking, it has more of a 'fun' design. I find the filters are harder to come by and usually buy them online (we change the filter every month with this one too).
The cats use both of them and they don't seem to prefer one over the other.
The only annoying thing about them both is lime scale, it blocks the pump eventually and you can't clean it with harsh products, so we soak the pumps in vinegar over night and that does the trick.0 -
We have the Dog it one which is the same really.
Our dogs and cat love it. The cat drinks from it, plays with the water and leans on it when shes hot.... (yes I have a freaky cat!)
Its definately worth the moneyGreen and White Barmy Army!0
