new boiler quote!!!

I need to change the old boiler (20 years old)at the new house i moved to. As my 2 showers are not electric i was advised not to fit a combi boiler as in that case i will need to change the showers. I was also told that a condensing boiler releases massive fumes and cost more to install than a conventional one (same advice from british gas and local firm). Now I got british gas to quote me for the conventional boiler+flushing of the system and they quoted me £2300 >:(.. A local plumbing firm were more gentle and quoted me £1600 for the same job. I have got 3 questions and i will appreciate any advice:
1- Do you think £1600 is a fair quote for the job?
2- is it true that from April 2005 only condensing boilers will be installed? and if that is the case will i be in trouble with the council for having a conventional boiler?
3- Does the advice they gave me about not to install a condensing combi boiler make sense :-[.
Im sorry for the long message but iam really confused :-/

1=Yes
2=No
3=Yes/No,as the condensing boiler is more expensive to buy,but cheaper to run.A thankyou is payment enough .0 -
You could check out the prices at somewhere like https://www.plumbcenter.co.uk; you'll probably find that the boiler will be in the range £600 - £900. Labour, and the all-important signature from the Corgi-registered fitter will bring that up.
Also bear in mind the "value" that this will add to your house, should you come to sell it. You could get the boiler installed and commissioned independently and then get BG's cover - some estate agents seem to like this.something missing0 -
Hi everyone,
We have (had) a Baxi Bermuda 675 which sprung a leak! Transco cut us off & I have had three people quote me so far.
1st was to replace with a Baxi inset 3 series but, they were unsure as to how they would fit the fire as our 'opening' is large and the 'regulations' no longer allow fire board backing (he suggested i would need marble perhaps!). This quote was £1,980 (inc Vat I think - verbal).
2nd said to have a Combi. Would have to have radiators flushed, normally £600 (which is what British Gas charge) which he would do for £280 if doing the job. Need to run a larger gas pipe from meter under floorboards then up to airing cupboard and remove existing emersion heater. the flue would go up through the loft and out a tile on the roof. Quote £2,702.50 inc. VAT!
3rd said same as above but advised a pipe would need to go from airing cupboards to outside wall (run along skirting board). Verbal quote £1900 + VAT). Take 2 1/2 days.
2 & 3 still mean we have no fire in the fire place.
Should I get more quotes or are these reasonable? Daughter reckons Combi's are noisy (airing cupboard in my bedroom) and condensing boilers only work in hotter climes.
Help and advice please. At mo we have no heating so have to make a decision very soon.
Regards
Jean
