Dell printer cable

Hi Folks

Have been given a dell printer/scanner A920, with a mains lead but no PC cable.

Do I need a Dell specific cable ?

  • Could be a rebadged Lexmark....watch the ink refill costs, you say you were given it? I wonder why, pass it on.
  • As above, any USB A to B cable will do the business. Check out eBay.

Also as above, as Dell printers are badge engineered Lexmarks and these have an integral print head in the cartridge, replacements are more expensive than Epson or Canon ones, which are just a container for the ink.

However, as they contain technology, Lexmark (and HP) cartridges can be and have been patented. This means that no-one else can make them. This means that any remanufactured (ie. refilled) ones, at places like Cartridge World, must have been made by Lexmark (or HP).

Also, consider refilling them yourself. I do and it isn't rocket science, despite what the printer manufacturers say. The trick is to refill the cartridges as soon as the ink starts to run out: running them dry is what can damage the jets in the print heads. Don't overfill them either: what's the point, when you can refill them any time you like?
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
  • Check out the cheap shops the usually sell a bog standard USB A-B cable for £1

If you don't take Stephen Leak's advice about refilling the print cartridges, then you may find you can print a considerable number of pages after the cartridge complains it is empty.
