Dell warranty transfer???

On Ebay there are quite a few commercial sellers selling new Dell computer systems with a manufacturers (Dell) 12 month warranty.
A Dell salesman told me this warranty will be no good as the warranty cannot be transferred in the UK.
The seller says it is good. Both are trying to sell to me - who do I believe?
Has anybody bought a Dell system via Ebay then successfully used the Dell warranty?
Please help me get to the truth.
Thanks for any info - Happy.

I've sold Dell computers on ebay and have transferred warranties without a problem may times.
All is required it the filling out of a change of ownership form which can be done online. Total process time is about 1 day."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
If Dell have told you themselves that the warranty is no good then I don't see how the seller can deliver this. As far as I can se your warranty would be from the seller (for what its worth!) not Dell.
Are the prices that different on this auction to what you would pay Dell for a kosher PC?

That's a very good point. Dell very often have some great deals and they can work out even cheaper if you go through a cash back site like Rpoints. You can often get free upgrades and free delivery as well if you buy direct.
After all, if this seller can get them cheap enough to sell on ebay then Dell must discount. What about giving Dell a call to see what sort of price you can get from them?
If you do buy from Ebay then I am more inclined to believe Dell re the warranty rather than the seller, after your 45 day chargeback window with paypal has expired you have no further leverage on the ebay seller if it does go wrong, at least with Dell you should get a full years warranty guaranteed.

This is on the Dell knowledge base:

You are quite right Dell do offer some great deals.
I went on line to order a 'special deal' Wed evening and my loan computer crashed. I tried using their phone service it had closed.
Next morning I phoned Dell to give debit card etc. They refused to accept as offer had finished and the price was now considerably higher if I wished to purchase.
Hence my looking at the Ebay deals. My only worry is the warranty transfer.
Perhaps nobody has used the warranty transfer because Dell machines don't go wrong ????? :rolleyes:You don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing" Large print giveth - small print taketh away. "0 -

I've just sold a laptop on Ebay - filled the online warranty transfer for 90 day collect and return and it seemed to accept everything ok (still waiting to hear back) but something occurred to me - is the 90 day collect and return warranty a seperate one from the 1 year warranty and will I have to transfer the 1 year warranty seperately?0
