If you are using the software on your own machine, ie: a laptop, another way this could be done is do get hold of some "Virtual Drive" software.
This allows you to create an image of a CD on your hard drive, then you can insert the image into the "Virtual Drive" and you should be able to run the software.
If you need to install the software onto different machines and need the CD in the drive to run the app it may not work from a DVD due to disc protection locks.0 -
Yeah mikenewborn is right. You need to make bin/cue images (like an ISO image) of the discs and mount them to a virtual drive. There's quite a lot of software that'll do this but CDRWin is one of the better pieces of software. You can download a trial version or buy it for around £20 from Goldhawk Technology. It'll create the bin/cue's.
Once you've created these bin/cue files burn them onto DVD. You can then use something like Daemon Tools to create a virtual drive. Using Daemon Tools you simply mount one of the bin/cue files (which represent a cd) and it simply appears as a CD Drive in Windows as if you actually had the original cd inserted."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Most software titles will run from your HDD if you have the capacity to store them. You will also have to make changes to the registry in order for this to work.
Simply create a folder on you HDD eg c:\CD001 and copy the required information from the CD to that directory, then run the registry editor & search for the software that you have installed. You will see a registry key which points to your CD rom drive, simply edit this to point to the newly created folder on your HDD.0 -
Just found this:

If anyone tries it, let me know how it turns out.
I'm itching to try it but I don't have the need right now:)0
