i have had a white knight, high speed tumble dryer now for some years, they are both efficient and reliable, though they tend to be a tad noisey, but that may be down to the large amouth of clothes they take, as regards to cost effective, yes most certainly, a fraction of the price of electric, but remember, you must have a window ajar, when it is operating, when my one packs in, i will go out and buy another straight way,
  • Thanks for that - I have been looking at one of the White Knights for a little while, its just that he brand as a whole isn't well thought of. So I was a bit wary.

I would also reccomend a gas one . Ok you gotta pay more and also have to pay for install but I would never go back to electric dryers.
It really amazes me that some of the money savers( was gonna say tight gits lol) that I know are still on electric dryers. Im suprised that they don`t follow the same logic and put an electric fan heater in every room instead of central heating, afterall fan heaters are only £10 each and central heating is £2,000.

The OP link for £239 seems a fair price. Remember that you will also need a gas pipe behind the dryer to connect it to ( most connect on a bayonet hose like a gas cooker) ,ideally it wants venting outside and as I remember it they cannot be installed under a worktop unless they are vented outside ( please check this)

I bought mine from the free ads a few years ago, think it was £100 and its never broken down.
On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.
  • Thanks for all that - I found one for £229 now so I am a happy bunny. LOL

  • Now I am know mathamatician but with the gas price hikes happening ,would it still be cheaper to run than an electric one ? If so then I may consider a gas one too.
  • Well................

I just received a lovely letter from PowerGen, I get combined Gas and Leccy from them, pay by standing order and get Web Bills, according to uSwitch.com its the best deal I can get around here.

    "Dear Mr P,

These will be your new prices from 31st August, like it or lump it - we don't care.

Gas - 2.537p/Kwh to 1143K/wh per quarter then-
    2.017p/Kwh

    Electricity - 12.60pK/wh to200K/wh per quarter then -
9.05pK/wh (This is day rate BTW)

Electricity - 3.30pK/wh unlimited (Night Rate)

Sooooo............Taking your average 3Kw tumbler into account a gas drier will save 2.4p per hour used compared to only using it on economy 7 or a whopping 31.5p per hour (potentially) if used during the day.

However the ever generous Leccy Company did sent me a voucher for 4 free low energy bulbs  A voucher for £75 off cavity wall insulation (I'd like to see them try - I've got solid walls  ) Oh and a voucher for £200 of a steamer boiler (condensor to you and me)) Aargh. (I changed my own last year)

I guess that with normal family use (couple of times a week) and a price difference of maybe £120 quid you could see payback in a year.
