Speeding fine

I got caugt speeding today by a policeman with a handheld trap thingumy:o . Particularly annoying as i dont speed normally - i am too conscious of my mpgs!! however fair enough i was daydreaming saw two policemen thought 'ooh i wonder what they are doing' then one pointed at me and it dawned on me!! Not sure how fast i was going but i would think about 40 as i was heading our of a 30 zone. Can anyone tell me what the fine is for this and whether this will affect my insureance premiums?? im 25 never had any fines before and have been driving for 6 years.

Thanks

Same sort of thing for me and I also got 3 points and £60!

I don't think it has affected my insurance much, maybe £20 per year...

I think in certain speeding cases drivers now get the option to attend a Speed Course rather than have a fine and penalty points. Check with your local police authority if they operate one.
  • Bad luck, but it might make you feel a little better to hear that I got caught twice in 4 daqys after 15 years of a clean licance! Double bad luck. In Hampshire the police offer a drivers awareness course if you are only speeding by a certain percentage. They charge £74 but you don't get the points. To be fair the course was actually quite good and made it very clear how to identify speed limits. So all in all I'm £134 down and have 3 points, so now driving like a muppet and upsetting other road users! It'll teach me to have a week off and to be driving around during working hours when there is no traffic!!

Well unless they've designed something new for policemen to hold in their hand .... you shouldn't get any fine/points.

The hand held radar just checks the speed ....and they would flag you down, for a ticket, if you were outside their working tolerance. Certainly the several I've got too close to over the years don't retain data for any delayed processing.

So I suspect you were in their tolerance limit or there was another vehicle too close and running the risk of generating a false reading.

It is not stated in the OP if a ticket was issued or not but, reading between the lines of the OPs post i would say that he / she was issued with a FPN at the scene.

I would guess not as they asked what the fine was this, if they had a FPN issued it would say on there how much they had to pay.

Not quite sure how you deduce that from :
Not sure how fast i was going
    and
Can anyone tell me what the fine is for this

...... as both would have been made crystal clear had the OP been pulled over!

OK, perhaps i was reading alittle too much into the post (or maybe not enough!) but, from experience of issuing these tickets (used to be a police officer) a lot of people do not really take in what is being said at the scene and would just pocket the ticket and read it a couple of days later. However, on rereading the post i would agree that it is unlikely that the OP would recieve any fine or points from the details posted.
