In the search to save money but gain quality I would like to share a broadBand ASDL. connection between a friend who lives in the next flat and his friend that lives a mile away- i,e. spliting bill 3 times . i HAVE JUST ORDERED A NETGEAR ROUTER AND FREE WIRELESS ADAPToR so the next flat should be covered but what about his friend? Can i get the connection and sort of sub- let to them? At the moment I am on dial -up but want to change to broadband
Cheers

Depending on the construction of the flats (60's reinforced concrete kills the signals very quickly) the neighbour would be alright but not a mile away unless you start building high gain aerials (there's info out there on the net - some people do share there broadband that way).

Not sure what you mean by sub-letting. ADSL is tied to your physical phone line.

Do you know your friends well enough to let them potentially access any sensistive/private/financial data on your PC. That's the risk you run by sharing your network. I wouldn't risk it unless you have NT/2000/XP Pro and are conversant with setting up system administrator security policies.
