underpriced job

If you are just starting it makes sense to build up a good reputation. Don't just stop the job before completed as word of mouth is very powerful and you could get a bad name.
Companies/Individuals often make a loss for the first few months or year.
As long as it covers your costs (materials) its the main thing.0 -
I think you should finish the job, even if you find it demoralising. That would not be professional and won't do your reputation any good. You could try talking to the customer but really I think you should have done this at the start. No-one likes it when they hire someone to do a job and the price goes up after the work has started. Just finish the job and put it down to experience.
In future though, if when you go to start a job you find that the scope of work has changed, speak to the customer at that stage to agree on extra costs (or take on the extra work within your price if that is something you decide you want to do for whatever reason). Even better would be to issue detailed quotes - especially if you have a space for the customer to sign their acceptance: list exactly what is included in the price and have some simple terms including a statement that any extra work will be subject to additional charges to be agreed before the extra work starts.0
