Help needed with store card payment protection

Options
Really sorry if this is in the wrong place:confused:
I did look through the forums...honest
maybe someone would be kind enough to move if it is in wrong place:o

We have a problem with a store card:rolleyes:

My husband took out a Burton's store card in about 2005

he didn't keep up the repayments and i found out about this in late 2006 after it had been referred to a credit collection agency:rolleyes2

i wrote to them explaining that he was on ssp and our money was non-existent
they accepted £1 month token payment

Then we got thrown out of our house, had a really bad time etc, anyway the s/o got cancelled somehow:(

They have know referred now to another credit collection agency

around December we got a letter redirected to our new address from GE money, saying that "although our account is now with Lewis" at the time of taking out the store card, he had also taken out account cover insurance with payment protection, they where writing to "cover themselves as they might have not made him aware of the terms and conditions"

They wanted us to phone if we wanted a cancellation policy, had a claim rejected, or to ask any questions

I have only just got round to trying to sort out our money situation....again
although i was looking into finding a way to pay off this debt, i wanted to ask if we would be covered as it turns out that my husband was made redundant (after being on ssp) if you would like to know that complicated situation to do with this please see my other question: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=753443

The telephone number they put in the letter was only open till 31st December:rolleyes:

and i have been past from pillar to post, trying to find out answers, i phoned GE money, who eventually gave me the number for, CL finance saying they had taken or everything, so i phoned them, and was given another number, they then said it was still GE monies problem, so i phoned them again, got through to someone different, who gave me the number for....CL finance, saying they diffinatly were the ones who now could sort it, so back on the phone to them, after the same numbers, spoke to the same guy, who put me through to a lady that said they just work on behalf of Burton's!:wall:

I am not getting anywhere!:undecided
all i want to know is since my hubby took out this insurance that had payment protection, could we and how do we claim, to get some help paying this outstanding balance, due to the fact he was made redundant

the thing that is making it difficult is the fact it wasn't paid regularly, fallen into arrears, and is now with a debt company, we didn't know he had this insurance, and we didn't know he was classed as "redundant"

can we still claim and how?

does anyone have a Burton's store card statement, that they can give me the number for the claims department off of?
 BIG Thank you to Competition posters & the person who created the "entered" button!
