Need a battery booster pack, any recommendations?

Hi,

My car would not start today so i called out green flag (home vist) and they got it working fine with jump leads. (there was no-one else at home, and all neighbours gone to work).

Now i'm looking at getting something that you stick in your boot and just gives a little power to the battery to get in started. The car in going in about 3 months time so there is no point me spending money on a new battery. (car is 10 years old)

Any advice would be great

The Heavy Duty pack that machine mart sell is not cheap at about £95, but it's pretty robust and will start most things. Mine has lasted a few years and has had a fair bit of use (tinkering with old cars).

Cheaper ones often don't have a switch for the power so the leads are permanently live - not really safe rolling about in the back of your car.

Why not just buy a cheap battery for your car - unless you've got a real oddball, you can get a decent battery with a 1yr warranty for about £40, then swap it back when you get rid of the car.

If you have the option (garage/private driveway etc.), get a small 'trickle' charger you can leave running overnight. That will be more like £20 (or less) and cost buttons to run.

I've had good results with 'Bat Aid' tablets which you can add to ailing batteries, but more often than not it doesn't help enough, so a false economy IMHO.

A "booster pack" is just a battery inside a box.

You can make your own;
Buy a pair of jump leads, get a battery from a scrappy for £10 tops. Then get a 12v charger, cheap one = £10, decent one = £35

TBH you may aswell just buy a new battery...

i would just be done with it and buy a new battery,the cheap booster packs arent that clever,for a decent booster pack it will cost you more than a battery and save you the hassle of having to slave start every time you need the car.
