repaying overdraft

I have started the ball rolling on reclaiming my bank charges, I spoke to my bank (First Direct) a couple of weeks ago as they were starting to charge me for fun on my account for being over my overdraft. They assured me that if I cancelled all direct debits and standing orders and basically didn't use my account, then they would stop the charges. This hasn't happened, they are charging me anything from £50 to £140 a month for being over the overdraft and continuing to do so. They have now told me I have to repay the over draft within 7 days 'or else' !
There is no way I can do this as it is over £700 due to them constantly charging me! I believe they are playing nasty now as they will be aware that I am trying to reclaim charges.
Can anyone give me any advice on what to do next, I have been told that if i did/could pay the overdraft then it may make it difficult to reclaim charges if the account is closed, but I don't want to be blacklisted or encounter bailiffs! HELP!!! Thanks in advance, sorry for the essay.

Get 6 years statements or make sure you do a full Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act(cost £10). I would also put the account into dispute because they cannot default a disputed account.
