Cheapest way to phone 0870 (say no doesn't help)

I have Sky and my sister also wants Sky so I need to phone their recommend a friend number, which is 0870.
I have used two geographical numbers that I got from 'say no to 0870' which have put me through to their 'customer services' who just told me to re-dial the 0870 number.
So it seems that I have no choice (I have tried to do this online but also without success).
So my question is - Is there a cheaper way of dialling an 0870 number, than racking up charges on my Sky call plan?
Many thanks

BT or 18185 is cheapest for 0870 (and 0845) calls - depending on day and time of day.
See http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=5357468&postcount=59Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
There are loads of numbers listed on Sayno for Sky. I went through a load here, so take your pick.0

Thanks, I did try a couple of those numbers - but when I got through and said I wanted to recommend a friend, they just told me to phone the 0870 numberI'm a retired employment solicitor. just tell them that no you wont and they have to put you through
your line does not allow you to call 0870
why should you have to pay an exorbirante rate to be stuck on hold for 30 mins costing you £5 t recommmend a friend.0 -

They might be willing to split with you.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. The best number for sky i found was 01506 421 884 got straight through to a lovely operator who was very helpful, only took about 2 rings. Couldn't find any other working numbers on saynoto. Hope this helps someone.0

Just a note to say we finally got sorted out. I did get through to sky on a couple of landline numbers but they refused to discuss the recommend a friend scheme with me and insisted I phoned 0845 410524.
It was worth it though. She got basic package TV, free BB & Router, and free Sky Plus Box, for £16 per month and £30 installation. I will be getting £50 M&S vouchers once it is all set up. She only signed up today and the engineer is coming out next Tuesday to do the installation.
So all in all, worth the 0845 phone call (I did divert over BT to keep the call as cheap as poss though!)I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
