Just shows how incompetent some lazy know all self congratulating public servant is. The intransigence of these idiots is beyond the flame. I make the lazy goofed work. Just like my old man, who aid he rates the day before the summons were issued every January. Used to give me 10 bob, when notice was up on bus. Should had seen them work like flurries that day on Knoll Street in Cleethorpes.

Stroud council operate a policy which allows payments on different dates. What CIS is saying is that in CT law, councils do not have to offer alternative payment dates.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

    Hi there help needed.

Me and my partner fell behind with council tax and were sent a letter saying to attend court on 23/07/14. It said case would be dealt with in our absence should we not go. We didn't. Since then we've received an attachment of earnings form and I have emailed the council recovery giving them my employment details. We go abroad tomorrow for our honeymoon I'm scared we won't be able to travel because passport control will stop us for this debt. Will we be ok to go. Please help ASAP

Interpol will also be informed, so even if you get through passport control (very unlikely!) you will be arrested at the other end.

    JOKE!!!!

You will be fine. Just go and enjoy your honeymoon and on your return ensure the debt will be/is being paid.

Unless you get to the point of a committal to prison hearing and skip the court then there's no warrants out for you or anything which would stop you travelling.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

Did it never occur you to settle the Council Tax Bill before paying for a honeymoon abroad?

You will be OK but you really need to settle the debt on your return and consider your priorities from then on.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

It may help others who find themselves in the same situation - how much did you owe and how much is the fine ?
Never pay on an estimated bill

I got a letter today saying i have been summoned to court on the 29th of this month. I have paid my council tax every month...and It says now i have to pay the full amount from February 2014..in which I was not even in the country..and I only started living as a resident in the UK in April...do you think they have made a mistake? I really can't afford to pay it all up front and I also work a full time job so I can't afford to skip a day to go to court..what are the ways around going to court without actually having to pay it all up front??

you need to learn the difference between statute law and local policy if you wish to disparage people on this board otherwise you just show off your ignorance.

I for one consider that as a private sector worker it is only reasonable I pay my taxes on time so that others less fortunate than myself can live. Presumably your father was one of the latter?

Paying each month isn't enough, payment must also be received by the due date to prevent you losing the right to pay by instalments.

If you think you aren't liable for the charge for a particular period you need to contact the council but in the meantime the money is due until such time as your council tax is adjusted.
