  • Hi guys,

I have recently acquired a hinari bread maker (from freecyle:j). however, I think i must be doing something wrong, i am thinking it cant be that difficult to use, can it? first loaf, I admit, i put it on too long a cycle and the sides and bottom came out too hard and a bit burnt. so the 2nd attempt (today) I put it on the quick programme. I followed the instructions, 350ml of warm water and then put the mix in (asda own white bread mix). the cycle lasts for 1hr 56 mins. The bread didnt rise/cook properly, so I checked the instructions again, and the only thing I can think of, is that I made the water too hot instead of just warm:confused: other than that, aint gotta a clue! lol. any advice as to what I am doing wrong?? I really wanna do my own bread, and I am getting really frustrated!!!!. thanks

If the water is too hot it would kill the yeast so it could be that

    Hiya,

I have a bread maker and the recipe book that came with it says sugar, I was wondering what type of sugar does it mean?

    Many Thanks

Any type will do but I use either white sugar or honey.
  • Im trying to make my breadmaker bread healthier..OK i realise it doesnt have the added nasties of mass produced supermarket bread, but it also doesnt have the added goodies of vitamins,Folic acid etc,so Ive decided to add wheatgerm to my white bread, had no idea how much to add tho so I have a loaf in the BM right now with 1 tablespoon of wheatgerm added, should i have added more or less?

Wheatgerm is super healthy: I have added wheatgerm to cakes without any negative effects, never tried sponges tho! IIRC I added maybe 100g to one cake. It contains lots of proteins, including gluten, so should not ruin your bread.

Protein, fibre, (healthy) fat, vitamins and minerals - all the nutrients are in the germ, that is why I am anti white carbs which behave like sugar in the body! :(

Be careful if you have a wheat allergy it does not help. I'm in pain now thinking about it.

    good luck with it though.
