  • The OP says it's an optical mouse, so I doubt it would be a laser mouse.

  • An optical mouse uses an LED to detect movement and is commonly referred to as a laser mouse.

There is no such thing as a laser mouse as far as I am aware and if there where. I'm 100% certain anybody who is "still learning about computer and techie terms" would neither know nor care what a laser mouse is.

So the rather confusing summary is - Yes it is a laser mouse(or at least what you think of as a laser mouse, ie the one with the red light as opposed to ball).

Optical mice and laser mice are two completely different things. Like someones said optical mice usually have a red LED that reflects off the surface onto a reciever that detects the movement of the mouse.

Laser mice have an actual laser (usually invisible) for greater accuracy. But to be honest, an optical one is usually just as good.
  • I stand corrected. However I may be making assumptions here but somebody who is new to computers, technology and the terminology associated with it is more than likely reffering to an optical mouse.

Unless they are a computer artist or pc gamer. Logic kind of dictates anybody new to techy stuff is neither of these.

I dont know much about computers or the mouse but My Mouse that has a red lasor on the bottom broke on Monday and I had to reove the lead from the back of the tower part of my computer and put the lead attached to my old mouse with a ball on the bottom in instead.
I have tried to use the right words/terms above but as i said im still learning as technology keeps changing so fast its hard to keep up.

i just thought there was a ball mouse and laser light mouse.

    Thanks to all for advise
