  • Hi Candygirl.
    Is it really cheaper?
I need to have a good look at things but its something we've contemplated for a while now.
My idea of a veggie means doubling up on veg and eating loads of quorn, which isn't that cheap, but if mince does go up by 40p then the quorn mince will be cheaper.
I'd be interested to know if it is cheaper too - we are vegetarian but I feel like things like quorn are expensive. I never look at meat prices so I don't know how it compares, but there is little competition (for quorn there is - er - Quorn). Candygirl - do you cook with a lot of pulses? I would love some ideas for cooking for kids!

    Hi all,

Today I spent £2.20 on 8 pints milk in Iceland, cravendale was 2 (4 pints)for £2) but there was none left :( THen went to Sainsbury later to pick prescription from pharmacy for DS1 and cravendale was 2 for £2 there too:mad: Had a mooch and got some whoopsies - bag of oranges 99p, bag of clementines 99p and 3 pots hummus 65p.

So spent £4.83 total plus £1.20 for a cup of tea in Woolies cafe (it'll have to come from grocery budget cos i don't have any money for another budget:confused: )

My Tesco shop was £69.88 but I'm taking a couple of the substitutions back to the shop cos I don't want them (I wasn't here when delivery came so couldn't hand them back at the time). They substituted lentils for chickpeas - wanted to make hummus, can't do that with lentils:D

    Will update sig now.

    Hi All

    Quick question if I may?

Is it at all possible for 2 adults and 2 children (and three dogs) to live on a budget of £300 per month for groceries? or would I have to eat that horrible value mince with bones and gristle in it to succeed :rotfl: this would have to include toiletries, cleaning stuff and dog food (this I get for £9.00 a 20kg sack which lasts 2 weeks)

I sound a bit of a snob when it comes to food, but I'm not, I just cannot bear cheap mince or sausages or anything made with mechanically formed [STRIKE]bodyparts[/STRIKE] meat as you can tell!

I do have a little money over but would like this to go on nice things during the month or saving for a holiday or nicer mince :p

    So is it possible??
  • Bad month on the groceries front, already spent £358 and have another weekend before the end of April. On the positive front we are away for two weeks in April so should be cheaper month!!

I've never bought or cooked meat as haven't eaten it since I was 5(don't ask why it's a looooong story;) )I only know it's cheaper, as I have converted a few friends who say theyre saving a fortune not eating meat.I do use a lot of pulses for protein, but buy the dried ones then soak and cook them in chillies, lasagne, stews, soups etc.
There are tons of veggie recipes in tho OS index.:D
    Hope this helps:p
SARAH Rose Elliot has a veggie cooking for kids book, but i'm not sure what ti's called

  • Well done Razra and Mumzy of 2... You're both doing great!!!!!!!!!
Just going to update my sig now -April has begun for us and I need to show what we've spent so far (got lots of non-perishables in March to use a voucher). Organised my meal planner very early so I knew what to buy. Looking forward to cooking lots of the delicious recipes I've gathered. Hope to cook extra portions for the freezer.
OB already knows he is limited on his meat this month.... just as well!!!
