Hi Hellicopter and welcome on board
Where abouts in Germany are you? i think different areas have different supermarkets...
ALDI is my life saver... The produce in there is really good quality and far cheaper than anywhere else... to give you some rough idea:-
1 kilo leeks 69c
500g broccoli 49c
cucumber 39c
2 kilo apples €1.49
2 kilo oranges €1.69
they are usually around half the price of anywhere else.... even if you just use them for your basic fruit n veg you should make quite a saving... but i get my yogurts, cream cheese and various other bitz n bobs there
We have Martkoff, Kaufland very expensive i found, REAL is good for when you need more choice and has some great whoopsies if you can catch them right;) and now because of another poster on here (egon) i have found the local asian market :j
You can spend a fortune out here as i think the variety of stuff they sell is amazing, but if you stick to the basic ingredients and make most stuff yourself you can live a lot cheaper than in the UK...
If i can be of any help just let me know-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

Hi MrsMcawber - Thanks for the advice - at the minute I tend to shop at Real, but it has the 'tesco' effect (walking through the household stuff, toys etc and piling the bits and bobs in the trolley) E-dec is okay, but never done a full shop there. Netto is really cheap, but a limited choice and the fruit / veg isn't that good. I've found a great fruit and veg shop within walking distance so am buying what i need fresh every couple of days. It's slightly more expensive, but I'm not throwing anything away now as I've found supermarket carrots and spuds are too soft within days. Will pop to Aldi on saturday and give it a go. I cook everything from scratch and we only have a couple of take-outs a month so am hoping to stick well within my budget.
One thing I love out here is the getrank refunds - how great are they? It's brillant especially when OH mates pop round for a beer, bring a crate and then leave their empties!:rotfl:LMB 01/03/08£9001.61 £10/6 6089.70 - 32%paid off!

Hi Candygirl.
Is it really cheaper?
I need to have a good look at things but its something we've contemplated for a while now.
My idea of a veggie means doubling up on veg and eating loads of quorn, which isn't that cheap, but if mince does go up by 40p then the quorn mince will be cheaper. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0 -
