Thanks being abused in The Arms

Can I be a bit of a grump and suggest that there are no "thanks" in The Arms as there seems to be a case of small groups conversing and thanking each other every time they post anything.

Some insects called the human race,
Lost in time, and lost in space,
And meaning"

Well I'm glad someone else has noticed and it's not just me that objects to folks abusing the system.
Just wait though till the hordes of hypocrital idiots come to piously declare they don't ever bother with thanks/post counts. They are on the whole and with one or two exceptions, the same people who start and contribute to the congratulations threads which again turn into Thanks fests as this thread will become.
It happens every time anyone complains. I suspect they pm each other to join the mutual thanks fest, as they enjoy being so hypocrital and really just want to bring the site into ridicule and general contempt.

I thought it was for people to say thanks without writing loads of posts eg. someone posts a freebie, instead of 100 people posting to say thanks, they could just click a button. Saves on space
There's different reasons too, like - thanks for cheering me up, thanks for the help, thanks for making me realise I'm not the only one with this problem, thanks for making me laugh..................Bulletproof0 -
But it's fair to say that as about 90% of Troo's thanks were obtained in the Arms they were probably not for posts that were particularly useful and thus the description which is carried with the thanks message is inappropriate.
If the Arms Thanks were counted separately as well as being properly labelled much of the friction would disappear. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

your abusive tirade against other members is inexcusable and a terrible example to set as a long-time member,it is totally unwarranted and IMO does nothing for your case0 -

Personally I'd like to see the thanks button disappear for good.Bulletproof0 -
as someone who suffers from depression and hardly leaves the house in the real world (for reasons i wont explain here) i will openly admit there is many a time i will use the thanks button in the arms. ie thanks for cheering me up, making me laugh, being nice etc.
I am one guilty for starting many a happy birthday and congrats thread in the arms. I personally do it for new and old alike as i believe it helps make people feel more welcome/a part of the arms (the more social side of mse) especially those who feel nervous posting there at first
just my thoughts
regards

I don't understand how thanks can be abused. It doesn't buy anything, pay for anything, give people seniority, stop them being due to any issues.
Please people just leave thanks alone. It works, its a nice thing, its stopped the excessive 'thank you posts' which clog up threads.

when removing this word would give a more accurate description to the way the button is being used.
I also simply cannot understand why you cannot be bothered to remove the Arms Thanks from the total count and give it a count of it's own?
I appreciate you feel is isn't something you want to spend your time doing but you must by now be aware how some people feel and I think it is reasonable to make the adjustments which have been detailed. If you would rather spend your time deleting these threads which I have not initiated or conspired to create then that's your perogative but I think you can do better to recognise the contribution of those who only spend their time here trying to contibute useful posts rather than cow tow to those who spend the majority of their time simply mucking about.
I don't think I have ever suggested doing away with the Thanks button. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Ted I understand what you're saying, but I disagree
Thanks is a thank you nothing more, its just as valuable in the arms as anywhere else. When we have some developer time i may get rid of the word 'useful' but i thin this issue is overblown.
