I'm sure I read somewhere that you shouldn't do this but not sure where...
I haven't used my BM for quite a while but would like to get back into it again
It's just that I did immerse it once when I washed the pan.
I did it without thinking coz I was doing a load of washing up and just picked it up as the next thing and plonked it in the water and only afterwards did I realise what I'd done
My loaves were a bit hit and miss anyway but I can't remember now whether I noticed that immersing the pan actually had an effect on the loaves or not...
Does anyone know whether this is true or not please ???

Try turning the paddle by using the spigot beneath the pan
If it is very stiff or immovable, or goes crunch crunch the answer is yes, you have water ingress into gear box & it has rusted
If it turns freely then you have got away with it this timeEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Oops, I always just chuck the whole thing in the sink - have been doing this for over a year. I take it I shouldn't?
It's never even occurred to me that this might be a problem!0 -
I always immerse my breadmaker pan when doing the washing up and haven't had any problems with it.

i don't immerse mine in water as there is a kind of washer type thing on the outside to hold the paddle on inside and i had to buy a new bread pan as the washer broke and it couldn't be replaced so although i doubt one wash would ruin it i would not recommend putting the whole thing in water - just put some water inside pan and let it soak for a while then rinse out - just my opinion though! The mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o

OH does the washing up and I haven't instructed him differently!
I didn't know immersing it was a problem - obviously didn't get that far through the instruction leaflet!!!:DThanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I wash mine by scooping water out of the washing up bowl into it but keeping the very underneath of it dry.0

I put mine in the dishwasher and it made no difference whatsoever.. I wouldn't worry.. it doesn't have a gear box thing.. ?? or mine doesn't.. it has a lever which turned the paddle and the lever is turned by the actual machine..suppose you could call that a gear.. I guess.. it might need a bit of greasing occasionally in the underpart.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

Ooh, never even thought about this - always immerse mine, and usually leave to drain. Been doing this since getting it in 2000.Resolution:

I dont think all makes specify keeping the pan dry. I have a panasonic and it definatly says it in the booklet. A neigh bour had a panasonic and washed it in the sink every day for a year and it went brown eventually. She never immerses the new pan and a year on is the same colour as she bought it...0

I'm pretty sure the paddles still work OK and it's not rusted so it should be alright to use again...
I'm planning on using it tomorrowor should I say later today
