[Electrical] What is the diffrence between the Male and Female conduit adaptor?

Just was wondering what each one does and bought a junction box and what like to run the conduit to it. so i bought a Male and female adaptor but both fit inside the JB and lock on to the conduit pipe outside.

The female costs more, as you would expect!
The female has a threaded 'hole' and the male has a threaded 'shaft' as you would expect!
