  • Are we living on planet MAD?
Money make-over, beat-the-bailliffs, Clobber the cards, mangle the moneylenders? They ain`t all bad, we usually take what they offer, I wonder what format the show will take?
I can see it now, Charlie Dimnockers with a wheelbarrow full of cash while Wolfy from Gladiators beats back the bailliff with a rolled up wad of fifties, meanwhile the debtors are hiding under the stairs with Jeremy Beadlebaum waiting for the right moment to come out of the closet, "Shhhhhhhh, I think they have gone. that was hilarious!"
Now over to our repossessioncam hidden outside the house, ooh look it`s Kirsty Klueless and Phil Phake from "Location Location Location" eyeing up a property that is just about to go on the market. A van pulls up outside and it`s the A-Team, BA Barraccus jumps on Wolfy "Damn Motley Fool" he shouts and they fall to the ground, Wolf retaliates with a sharp wad of fifties to the nose, BA goes out like a light, a close up of the govenor of the bank of Englands` moosh poking out of his bloodied hooter. David Dickensian appears to snap up all the contents of the house "Cheap as chips, saves me a trip to the auction."
And now back to Eamon and Fiona in the studio..................
The irony is the cost of making such daft programmes runs into hundreds of thousands of pounds per episode, for what? More afternoon TV junk.
Just use the money to pay off the debts! (just kidding)
If you appear on this programme you gotta be stupid and/or desperate.
If anybody wants to see what I look like I will be in the first episode!
    "Hi Charlie!"
"YOU WANT THE CASH? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE CASH"

    Don't be so harsh.

A lot of people just are not financially savvy, it's not a hanging offence.

Well, I'd normally be the first to shout down CTTs comment. However, I have to say I find it amazing that people would want to parade themselves on tv saying "hey, look at us - we've run up massive debts which we can't handle and are getting someone to sort us out on telly for your entertainment".
As a consumer show, telling people how to cope with debts I don't have a problem - would welcome it in fact. But these people who have to be "famous" do make me wonder about the sanity of the human race.
It's not a hanging offence to get into debt. Maybe it should be for going onto these shows. (Sorry Martin, I've probably just alienated all the guests on your new show lmao).

What happened to 'everybody's different'? We all think and feel differently about things.

Personally, I would never in a million years want to open my life up on television BUT that doesn't make me right and those who do that kind of thing wrong. It just means different things are important to different people.

Maybe people are so stressed out about their financial problems that the thought of baring their souls on tv seems like a walk in the park in comparison.

I think there will also be many people who will glean useful info from the advice given to those on tv, so this type of show will have the knock-on effect of perhaps helping more than just those in the spot light.

This thread seems to have brought up an interesting question though. What's the worst 'sin' to have I wonder.........being financially inept or being judgemental? I think one may be easier to cure than another.

Well, I've always tried not to be judgemental here. But......... :-)
This sort of thing has come over from America, where people seem to welcome all their dirty laundry being aired in front of millions for the chance of being on tv. A generalisation? sure it is, but it's backed up by the facts. I'd be interested to know Martins views on this, although he may have an understandable bias and may be better served keeping a professional distance. I'd like to know what sort of auditions these people have to go through before being on the tv (if any), are they chosen because of their problems or because they work well with the cameras?
My other gripe is that it is cheap tv - there's an undoubted educational slant to this for sure, but there will be plenty of people tuning in saying "look at those buffoons" and enjoying the entertainment. We have Airport, Airline, Life Of Grime, Bailiffs etc etc etc. Indebtedness seems to be "the new black" - we'll all be stars and be put on the same pedestal as, errrr, Jade Goody.

Judgemental it may be, but if nobody passes judgement on what they believe to be wrong, then we really are slipping into swift oblivion.
Being financially inept isn't a sin, it's a misfortune. Wanting to get on the tv no matter what? I think that particular sin comes under the heading of "pride".

We do agree on one thing though, the basis of a show telling you how to cope with and recover from debt is sound. Just not the freakshow surrounding it.

Think we may have to disagree here :)...I don't think we have the right to be judgemental about this kind of thing. If these people were being made to open up on tv, I would say that was very wrong. They're not though, they have used their own free will and chosen this route. I don't think anyone has the right to be judgemental about another's choice (unless of course it causes harm to others etc etc).

    I agree....which is why I used ' ' when I used the word sin.

I don't necessarily think people have opted to appear on tv no matter what though. Perhaps some do, but others will likely just be desperate for help and think this may be the best way to get it. Again...different strokes for different folks.

I have proved that I can't write anything humerous for fudge. Here are a few alternalive TV celebrity names.
    Jeremy Whine. Who he ?
Alex Drawl. Richer and better dressed than the alternatives.
The original names rhyme with the old ones.
