Chiltern Railway tickets from £4 (London, B'ham, Stratford...)
http://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/tickets-and-fares/special-deals/e-day/
Chiltern railways are offering cheap single tickets on their London Marylebone and Birmingham, Stratford-upon-Avon, Banbury, Bicester and Great Missenden (and vice versa) routes (N.B. the Birmingham trains do not go to New Street but it is a short walk from Moor Street to New Street Station).
Once you've paid for your ticket a text message is sent to your mobile phone and you use this to travel. You also get a confirmation e-mail which you should print off and take with you just in case.
Tickets can be booked up until 1800 the day before you travel (and it looks like it's only available on off-peak trains).
I've just mananged to book a return trip from London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street for £12! Very happy as I wasn't looking forward to paying £39.50 return with Virgin.
I have done the Marylebone/Moor Street route before and although it's not as fast as a Virgin train from London Euston, the price difference makes up for it!
Official MoneySavingExpert.com Insert:
This is a nifty service to slash the cost of travelling between Birmingham and London. Use Chiltern Railway's special ticket to your mobile service which costs from £5 each way and you could pay just £10 to get to London rather than the minimum £18 Chiltern normally charges.
While the route is slower and takes you from Birmingham Snow Hill or Moor Street to Marylebone rather than Birmingham New Street to Euston, if you're willing to spend a little longer getting there then the price difference can be huge.
If you're planning to also use the 2 for 1 entry into London attractions with this then it's also a good idea to make sure you print off your confirmation email to take with you.
It's also worth reading the FAQs.

Well, in the absence of someone else saying it, thank you.0

This deal looks good, but it takes about three hours. A better option still may be megabus.com or nationalexpress.com from Birmingham where you can get tickets from just one pound single. Whilst Digbeth coach station is further away than Moore street station, the advantage is that you are dropped off at Victoria Coach station which is pretty much on top of Victoria train station. The advantage of the National Express buses also is that they leave up to every 30 minutes during the day, or 1 hour throughout the night. Unlike the trains there are no 'peak' hours.
