What to wear to an interview!?

If the place is near ish for you to have an observe them thats what I did for my last interview and found out how casual they were. Mine is a jeans & t shirts place and a suit would be over the top here. A crisp ironed shirt and trousers would go well though and be no more than 5 mins early, too early and you look like you have nothing better to do. Take your P45 and write down your Bank details, a guy who started at our place last week has had to wait 2 weeks for pay as the payroll wouldn't tag him int the system. We knew and he knew at interview he was the one for the job.
Good luckPanda xx

you guys i'm not a tramp
:rotfl: lmao...sorry! It's just that when I dug out my OH's 'best' shoes out of the wardrobe last week, he'd had them under a pile of footy boots and trainers and they were totally flat at the front  ....it just made me think that's all that even new shoes can look a bit knackered if they've not been worn for a while.
Oh...and leave your cans of Special Brew and your 'dog on a string' at home too
Just run, run and keep on running!0 -

Smart but casual should be in order, in this day and age first impressions shouldn't enter the equation as the answers given by the candidate is the important factor.
However, we don't live in an ideal equal opportunities world and sometimes those first impressions on looks can make the difference.
The main thing to remember is that your appearance will give the interview panel an insight into how much you want the job, shabby clothing can indicate that the candidate can't be bothered to make an effort which could reflect on their work ethics.Welcome, rogerramjet.

petedp,
I have just gone through three interviews - each lasting 1.5 - 2 hours. A friend who works in HR said take your passport as the Laws have changed recently and companies have to be sure you are who you say you are.
I wore just a shirt and tie (hot days), no jacket, smart trousers and newish dark leather shoes. Also, as they introduce themselves, shake their hand (firm) and repeat their name back. I then sat down and quickly noted them down on the letter/directions page - as aid memoir for later. Keep your hands on the table, do not fiddle with the pen, etc. Also, if offered do except a glass of water, I did not at one interview and it was a long 1.5 hour!
I had quickly looked up the companies website the night before, so I could ask suitable questions. Also, took notes whilst they presented their recent projects/schemes and later brought them into questions on how they saw me fitting in their structure and projects. I was advised that the first question should not be about money. But, asking about pension scheme is OK, towards the end.
Good luck, I got three offers and am now in the process of excepting the £7k increase in pay!
Regards,

If you decide to observe their dress code before you attend the interview remember that many companies now have dress down days0
